Communication Development

Communication development is one of the most important areas of early childhood development.

Communication is more than just words. It includes all the ways children connect with others and share their wants, needs, and ideas.

Young children communicate in many ways, including:

• eye contact
• facial expressions
• gestures such as pointing or reaching
• sounds and babbling
• words and simple phrases

Before children learn to speak, they are already learning how communication works through interactions with the people around them.
