Communication helps children:

• express their needs and wants
• build relationships with others
• learn new words and ideas
• reduce frustration
• participate in play and social interaction

Children learn communication best through back and forth interaction with caregivers.

This means talking with your child, responding to their sounds and gestures, and engaging with them during everyday activities.
